The Prince and the Fairy

The Prince and the Fairy
Explore the enchanting Alif Laila story of The Prince and the Fairy. A tale of mystery, danger, and divine intervention in the heart of the desert.

In the ancient lands where the sands whisper secrets of old, there lived a young and spirited prince named Sultan. He was a man of great courage and even greater curiosity, often spending his days exploring the vast reaches of his father’s kingdom. Unlike the cautious wisdom found in the tale of The Vizier and the Sage, Sultan believed that true knowledge could only be found through experience and adventure. One fateful morning, while chasing a deer that seemed more like a spirit than an animal, the Prince found himself separated from his hunting party.

A Mysterious Encounter

As the sun climbed high, casting a shimmering heat over the dunes, the Prince realized he was lost. The landscape had transformed into a terrain as treacherous as those described in Sindbad The 6th Voyage. Just as despair began to settle in his heart, he spotted a beautiful woman sitting by a crumbling ruin, weeping bitterly. Her beauty was ethereal, radiating a glow that didn’t seem to belong to the mortal world.

Approaching her with the gallantry expected of a royal, he asked, “O lady of the desert, why do you shed tears in such a desolate place?” The woman looked up, her eyes sparkling with a strange light. She claimed to be a princess who had been cast out by her family. Sultan, perhaps lacking the skepticism one might learn from The Barber’s 5th Brother, immediately offered his protection and a place on his horse.

The Trap and the Fairy’s Secret

As they rode toward what the woman claimed was her temporary shelter, the Prince felt an growing sense of unease. He remembered the misfortunes that befell others in The Story of Prince Agib and began to watch his companion more closely. When they reached a set of ancient, shadowed ruins, the lady asked him to wait while she prepared herself to receive a guest.

Unable to quell his suspicion, the Prince dismounted and followed her stealthily. To his horror, he saw her enter a chamber and transform. She was no princess, but a malevolent fairy—a ghoul in disguise. He overheard her speaking to her hungry brood, promising them a feast of a young, plump prince. The realization hit him like a thunderbolt. He was not in the company of a damsel in distress, but a predator of the supernatural realm.

A Leap of Faith

Terror gripped his heart, but the Prince knew that panic would be his undoing. He thought of the resilience required to survive Sindbad The 7th Voyage and decided to rely on his faith. He stepped back into the sunlight, and as the fairy emerged in her beautiful human form once more, he looked toward the heavens.

“O Creator of the worlds,” he prayed aloud, “save me from the evil that lurks in the guise of beauty. I seek refuge in Your power against the deceptions of this creature.”

Upon hearing the holy words and witnessing the Prince’s unwavering devotion, the fairy shrieked in agony. The divine aura of the prayer acted as a shield, and the creature, unable to withstand the purity of his intent, vanished into a cloud of dark smoke. The Prince did not wait to see if she would return. He mounted his horse and rode with the wind, guided by a sudden clarity that led him back to the royal tracks and eventually to his father’s palace.

Lessons from the Desert

The Prince returned a changed man. He no longer sought danger for the sake of thrill but understood that the world is filled with illusions. He shared his story with the court, warning them that not everything that glitters is gold, and not every cry for help is genuine. The tale of the Prince and the Fairy became a legendary lesson in the Alif Laila chronicles, reminding everyone that while bravery is a virtue, discernment and faith are the ultimate protectors of the soul.
