Pakistan Ceasefire Violation LIVE: Explosions Rock Srinagar Just Hours After India-Pakistan Truce Announcement

In a shocking turn of events, just hours after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire, loud explosions were reported across Srinagar, according to Jammu and Kashmir’s former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

The tension flared shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump publicly announced on Saturday that both nations had reached an agreement to halt hostilities. The ceasefire was supposed to bring an end to cross-border firing and military operations on land, in the air, and at sea — effective from 5 PM IST on Saturday, as confirmed by India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

However, despite the peace pact, locals in Jammu and Kashmir were startled by the sudden blasts heard in Srinagar, raising fresh concerns about the fragility of the agreement. The situation at the Line of Control (LoC) remains tense, and updates are being closely monitored by authorities.

This incident has once again put a spotlight on the ongoing India-Pakistan border tension and the challenges in sustaining long-term peace in the region.

New Delhi – In a major diplomatic breakthrough, India and Pakistan have officially agreed to a “full and immediate ceasefire”, marking a sudden and welcome shift from the rising military tensions of recent days. The announcement was first made by former US President Donald Trump, who revealed that a resolution had been reached after “a long night of talks” facilitated by the United States.

This dramatic turn of events unfolded on Saturday evening, just hours after Pakistan’s top military official called his Indian counterpart. The ceasefire agreement, which covers land, air, and sea operations, officially went into effect at 5:00 pm IST.

Trump Breaks the News

Taking to his platform, Truth Social, around 8 am (Washington time), Trump stated:

“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both countries for using common sense and great intelligence.”

Trump’s post was soon echoed by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who also confirmed the agreement and appreciated the responsible stance taken by both sides. Rubio noted that he had spoken with India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir earlier in the day.

In a message posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Rubio stated:

“We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif for their wisdom and statesmanship in choosing peace over conflict. Both countries have also agreed to open dialogue on broader regional issues at a neutral venue.”

India and Pakistan Confirm Ceasefire

Following the US announcements, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar officially confirmed the ceasefire.

“Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect,” Dar said, while claiming Pakistan’s commitment to peace and regional stability despite recent drone and missile incidents that targeted Indian military and civilian zones.

India’s confirmation came shortly after, through Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, who issued a brief but clear statement:

“Today at 3:35 pm IST, Pakistan’s DGMO (Director General of Military Operations) called his Indian counterpart. Both sides agreed to halt all military activities across land, air, and sea starting 5:00 pm today. Clear instructions have been issued on both sides to implement the ceasefire.”

Misri also noted that the two DGMOs would reconnect on Monday at noon to continue coordination and ensure the ceasefire holds.

Jaishankar Reinforces India’s Stand Against Terrorism

Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar welcomed the halt in hostilities but emphasized that India’s position against terrorism remains unchanged.

“While military actions have stopped as per mutual agreement, India remains firmly committed to combating terrorism in all its forms,” he stated on X.

A Dramatic De-escalation

The peace breakthrough comes after several days of heightened tension along the India-Pakistan border, involving cross-border shelling, drone intrusions, and missile incidents. The ceasefire is being seen as a rare moment of de-escalation in a long-standing conflict, with both countries facing internal and external pressure to prevent further escalation.

Looking Ahead: Hopes for Dialogue

The announcement has sparked cautious optimism among international observers. The planned follow-up talks and willingness from both countries to engage in broader discussions could signal a shift toward long-term Indo-Pak peace talks.

Whether this ceasefire marks a temporary pause or the beginning of meaningful peace remains to be seen. However, the US-led diplomacy, including Trump’s personal involvement, has certainly played a pivotal role in diffusing what could have escalated into a much more serious conflict.
