SSC CGL 2025 FAQs

Ques. Is SSC CGL a tough exam to crack?
Ans. The SSC CGL is a competitive exam due to the high number of applicants. However, it is not “tough” in terms of the difficulty of questions, which are generally of the 10th-12th standard level. With a consistent and smart preparation strategy, it is very much crackable.

Ques. What is the in-hand salary of an SSC CGL officer?
Ans. The salary varies based on the post’s Pay Level. It ranges from Pay Level 4 to 8. It also depends on the city of posting, which can be X, Y, or Z. An initial in-hand salary might be around ₹40,000. This is for a Pay Level 4 post in a Z-class city. It can go to over ₹85,000 for a Pay Level 8 post in an X-class city.

Ques. Can I prepare for SSC CGL in 6 months?
Ans. Yes, 6 months of dedicated and disciplined study is enough for a serious aspirant to crack the SSC CGL exam. They must follow a structured study plan and be consistent with their efforts.

Ques. Is a Bachelor’s degree from any stream acceptable for all posts?
Ans. Yes, for the majority of the posts under SSC CGL, a simple Bachelor’s degree in any discipline (like B.A., B.Com, B.Sc., B.Tech, etc.) from a recognized university is the required qualification. Only the posts of JSO and AAO have specific educational requirements.

Ques. Is there an interview in the SSC CGL selection process?
Ans. No, the interview round was discontinued a few years ago. The final selection for all posts is based on the cumulative marks obtained in the Tier 2 examination only.
