The Tale of Two Snakes: Once upon a time, there was a grand kingdom in ancient India. A king lived there with a handsome and virtuous son. However, the prince was tormented by a peculiar and painful ailment. Deep within his body, a venomous snake had taken up residence in his stomach. No matter what the royal physicians tried, they could not drive the serpent out. The prince grew thin and pale, losing his appetite and his zest for life.

The prince felt like a burden to his family. He could not bear the constant discomfort. He decided to leave his father’s palace in secret. He wandered through forests and villages. He lived on alms. This was much like the humble characters we encounter in the Tale Of The Golden Droppings. Finally, he arrived at a prosperous city. The city was ruled by a compassionate king. He took refuge in an old temple on the outskirts of the town.

Their transformation from wandering outcasts to a wealthy and healthy couple was complete.
