सुखिया अमावस्या व्रत का महत्व (Sukhiyaa Amavsyaa Ki Kahani)
जब अमावस्या तिथि पर सुख-समृद्धि के योग बनते हैं, तब उसे सुखिया अमावस्या कहा जाता है। इस दिन पितरों के तर्पण, दान-पुण्य और विशेष रूप से पीपल के वृक्ष की पूजा का बड़ा महत्व होता है। परंपरा है कि पीपल के वृक्ष की 108 बार परिक्रमा करनी चाहिए और हर परिक्रमा में पैसे, फल, मिठाइयाँ आदि अर्पित करने चाहिए। बच्चों में फल-मिठाई बाँटने से भी विशेष पुण्य फल प्राप्त होता है।
शास्त्रों के अनुसार, सुहागिन स्त्रियाँ यह व्रत अपने पति और पुत्रों की लंबी उम्र और अखंड सौभाग्य की कामना से करती हैं।
सुखिया अमावस्या व्रत कथा (Sukhiyaa Amavsyaa Ki Kahani)
बहुत समय पहले एक साहूकार था। उसके सात बेटे, सात बहुएं और एक प्यारी सी बेटी थी। साहूकार के घर रोज एक जोगी भिक्षा मांगने आता था। बहुएँ उसे भिक्षा देतीं तो वह चुपचाप ले लेता, लेकिन जब बेटी भिक्षा देती, तो वह मना कर देता और कहता,
“बेटी तो सुहागन है, पर इसके भाग्य में दुःख लिखा है।”
यह सुनकर बेटी दुखी रहने लगी और धीरे-धीरे दुबली हो गई। माँ ने कारण पूछा तो बेटी ने सब बता दिया।
अगले दिन माँ ने छुपकर जोगी की बात सुनी और फिर उसके पैरों में गिरकर उपाय पूछने लगी। जोगी ने बताया कि सात समुद्र पार सोमा नाम की एक धोबन है, जो हर सुखिया अमावस्या का व्रत करती है। अगर वह अपने व्रत का पुण्य तुम्हारी बेटी को दे दे, तो बेटी का दुर्भाग्य दूर हो सकता है।

माँ अपनी बेटी के लिए निकल पड़ी। रास्ते में थककर एक पीपल के पेड़ के नीचे विश्राम कर रही थी तभी उसने देखा कि एक साँप गरुड़ पक्षी के बच्चों पर हमला करने वाला है। माँ ने बहादुरी से साँप को मार दिया। तभी गरुड़ पक्षी आया और आकाश से उतरकर माँ से बोला,
“जो भी माँगना हो, माँग लो।”
माँ ने विनती की,
“मुझे सात समुद्र पार पहुँचा दो।”
गरुड़ ने उसे सोमा धोबन के घर पहुँचा दिया।
वहाँ सोमा के भी सात बेटे-बहुएँ थीं, जो आपस में झगड़ते रहते थे। माँ ने सोमा को खुश करने के लिए बिना किसी को बताए घर का सारा काम करना शुरू कर दिया। सोमा को आश्चर्य हुआ कि यह सब कौन कर रहा है। एक रात उसने देखा कि माँ चुपचाप आकर सब काम निपटा देती है।
सोमा ने उससे पूछा, तब माँ ने सारा सच बताया और अपनी बेटी के लिए सुखिया अमावस्या का पुण्य माँगा। सोमा ने सहर्ष स्वीकार किया लेकिन अपने घरवालों से कह दिया कि उसके लौटने तक कोई घर से बाहर न निकले।
सोमा धोबन माँ के साथ चली और बेटी के विवाह की तैयारी होने लगी। विवाह के समय, जब दूल्हा और दुल्हन फेरे ले रहे थे, तभी एक साँप दूल्हे को डसने आ गया। सोमा ने साँप को मिट्टी की हांड़ी में बंद कर दिया और कच्चे सूत से हांड़ी बाँध दी।
लेकिन इस घटना से दूल्हा डर के मारे बेहोश हो गया। ब्राह्मणों ने कहा कि अब इसे जीवनदान देना होगा। सोमा ने अपनी सुखिया अमावस्या के व्रत का फल दूल्हे को समर्पित किया और उसके ऊपर कच्चे दूध के छींटे मारे।
जैसे ही उसने प्रार्थना की, दूल्हा जीवित हो गया। विवाह खुशी से संपन्न हुआ।
जब वापसी का समय आया तो साहूकारनी (लड़की की माँ) ने सोमा से कुछ मांगने को कहा। सोमा ने सिर्फ एक मिट्टी की हांड़ी माँगी। रास्ते में सुखिया अमावस्या का दिन आया, तो सोमा ने उस हांड़ी के 108 टुकड़े किए, 13 टुकड़े अलग रखे और पीपल के पेड़ के नीचे 108 परिक्रमा करते हुए टुकड़े गाड़ दिए।

घर पहुँचने पर सोमा ने देखा कि उसका पति मर चुका था। उसने तुरंत सुहाग के छींटे देते हुए प्रार्थना की,
“मेरी सुखिया अमावस्या का पुण्य मेरे पति को मिले।”
तुरंत उसका पति जीवित हो गया।
इसी बीच एक ब्राह्मण आया और व्रत का दान माँगा। सोमा ने बताया कि उसने सब पीपल के नीचे गाड़ दिया। जब ब्राह्मण ने वहां खुदाई करवाई, तो 108 और 13 सोने के टुकड़े निकले। ब्राह्मण ने अपना एक चौथाई हिस्सा लिया और बाकी सोमा को दे दिया।
सोमा ने उन धनराशि से प्याऊ, धर्मशाला, कुएं और बावड़ियाँ बनवाईं और लोगों में सुखिया अमावस्या का संदेश फैलाया। तभी से सुखिया अमावस्या का व्रत विशेष महत्व का माना जाता है।

Sukhiyaa Amavsyaa Ki Kahani: Importance of Sukhia Amavasya Vrat
When an Amavasya (new moon) falls under auspicious conditions that bring prosperity and happiness, it is known as Sukhia Amavasya. On this day, offering tarpan (rituals for ancestors), performing charity, and especially worshiping the Peepal tree are considered highly auspicious. It is traditional to perform 108 circumambulations (parikrama) around the Peepal tree, offering coins, fruits, and sweets at each round.
Distributing fruits and sweets to children also brings immense spiritual benefits.
According to scriptures, married women (suhaagins) observe this vrat (fast). They pray for the long life of their husbands and sons. They also pray for eternal marital bliss.
Sukhiyaa Amavsyaa Ki Kahani: Story of Sukhia Amavasya Vrat
Once there lived a wealthy merchant who had seven sons, their wives, and a beloved daughter. A yogi (ascetic) would often come to their home seeking alms. Whenever the daughters-in-law offered alms, he accepted. However, when the daughter offered, he would refuse and say,
“The girl is married but destined for sorrow.”
Hearing this, the daughter became depressed and frail. Her mother noticed and asked her the reason. The daughter explained everything.
The next day, the mother secretly listened to the yogi’s words. She fell at his feet, begging him for a solution. The yogi revealed that across seven oceans lived a washerwoman named Soma, who observed the Sukhia Amavasya Vrat every month. If Soma could transfer the merit of her vrat to the daughter, her misfortune would be erased.

Determined to save her daughter, the mother set out to find Soma. Along the way, she rested under a Peepal tree where she saw a snake about to attack some baby eagles. She bravely killed the snake and saved the birds. Soon, the parent eagle returned, and seeing the dead snake, offered the woman a boon.
The mother requested,
“Please carry me across the seven oceans.”
The eagle agreed and dropped her near Soma’s house.
At Soma’s home, the mother noticed that Soma had seven sons and daughters-in-law who constantly quarreled. To win Soma’s heart, the mother secretly started completing all the household chores before dawn. Soma grew curious and one night pretended to sleep. She saw the woman at work and stopped her, asking the reason.
The woman tearfully explained her daughter’s plight and requested Soma to transfer the merit of her Sukhia Amavasya vrat. Moved by her devotion, Soma agreed. She instructed her family not to leave the house until her return and left with the mother.
Soon, the daughter’s wedding preparations began. During the wedding rituals, a snake again appeared intending to bite the groom. Acting swiftly, Soma trapped the snake in a clay pot, sealing it with raw thread. However, due to fear, the groom fainted. The priests insisted that only a divine blessing could save him.
Soma prayed with all her heart. She said,
“Let the merit of all my past Sukhia Amavasya vrats be bestowed upon this girl.”
She sprinkled raw milk drops over the groom. Miraculously, he regained consciousness, and the wedding completed successfully.
When it was time to leave, the merchant’s wife asked Soma what she could gift her. Soma humbly asked only for a clay pot. On the journey back, Sukhia Amavasya arrived. Soma broke the pot into 108 pieces. She kept 13 pieces separately. Then, she performed 108 parikramas around a Peepal tree and buried the pieces under it.
Upon reaching home, Soma found her husband dead. She immediately sprinkled sacred water and prayed,
“Let the fruits of my Sukhia Amavasya vrat revive my husband.”
Miraculously, he came back to life.
Soon after, a Brahmin approached and requested the donation of her vrat merit. Soma explained that she had already buried it under the Peepal tree. Upon digging the spot, they found 108 gold pieces and 13 smaller pieces. The Brahmin took one-fourth of the treasure as his share and left the rest to Soma’s discretion.
Soma used the wealth to build public amenities like schools, water huts, dharamshalas, wells, and stepwells for the community.
The Brahmin then spread the word throughout the city. He encouraged everyone to observe the Sukhia Amavasya Vrat for everlasting happiness. It would bring marital bliss.Glory to Sukhia Amavasya Mata!
