The Price of Indiscretion:<\/strong> In the ancient, sun-drenched city of Shravasti, there lived a weaver named Somilaka. He was a master of his craft. His fabrics were so fine they were said to mimic the touch of a summer breeze. Yet, despite his talent, Somilaka remained poor. While other weavers with far less skill lived in mansions, he struggled to provide. He found it difficult to secure even two meals a day for his family. He often wondered if his fate resembled The Story of the Potter<\/a>. In the story, the potter was once mistaken for a great warrior due to a simple scar. However, he was humbled when his true identity was revealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One day, frustrated by his stagnant life, Somilaka decided to leave his hometown. He told his wife, “I shall travel to distant lands where talent is truly rewarded. I cannot stay here and watch our lives wither away in poverty.” Somilaka ventured into the unknown, much like The Dog Who Went Abroad<\/a>. He was in search of better food and a better life. He hoped for a stroke of luck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Journey and the Encounter- The Price of Indiscretion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Somilaka traveled to a great manufacturing city and worked tirelessly for three years. His skill was quickly recognized, and he amassed a fortune of three hundred gold pieces. With a heart full of joy, he began his journey back home. However, as he reached the edge of a dense forest, he heard two voices arguing in the air. These were the voices of ‘Fate’ and ‘Effort.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fate argued, “Somilaka does not deserve this wealth. It is not in his destiny to enjoy such riches.” Effort countered, “He has worked hard; he has earned this through his sweat and skill!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To Somilaka’s horror, when he reached into his bag, the gold was gone. Undeterred, he returned to the city and worked for another three years, earning another five hundred gold pieces. This time, he was even more cautious. But as he neared home, the voices returned. Despite his vigilance, his wealth vanished again. Heartbroken, he contemplated ending his life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lesson of Silence- The Price of Indiscretion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Just as he was about to give up, the voice of Fate spoke to him directly. “Somilaka, you cannot possess what is not destined for you. However, I am impressed by your persistence. Go home, and I will grant you a boon. You will have enough to live comfortably. However, you will never have enough to be truly wealthy. Wealth brings with it the burden of indiscretion.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Somilaka returned home and found a small pot of gold hidden in his house. However, he could not keep this secret to himself. He felt a burning desire to boast about his divine encounter. He did not possess the quiet dignity of The King Devoted to His Wife<\/a>. The King understood that true devotion and secrets of the heart are best kept private. Instead, Somilaka began to drop hints to his neighbors and friends about his ‘secret source’ of wealth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Price of Speaking Too Soon- The Price of Indiscretion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Word of his sudden comfort and his vague explanations spread through the village. People began to suspect him of illicit dealings. His indiscretion invited the attention of a local group of bandits. These men were cunning. They possessed a malice similar to The Greedy Cobra And Frog King<\/a>. Trust was merely a tool for a deadly end. The bandits, believing Somilaka had a massive hoard of gold, raided his home one night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They found the small pot of gold that Fate had provided, but they were convinced there was more. They destroyed his looms, tore down his walls, and left him with nothing. Somilaka realized too late that his inability to keep a secret—his indiscretion—had cost him his livelihood and his peace. He was as gullible as the victim in the story of The Lion and The Foolish Donkey<\/a>. He was led into a trap by his own lack of foresight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He understood then that while fate decides our lot, our own words and actions determine what we keep. Silence is often the most valuable currency a man can possess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
